Good For Dual Monitors
I am using this graphics card to add dual monitor capabilities to my PC. I am not putting much strain on the card (two 22″ monitors at 1920×1080 resolution). I do not use them for gaming, mostly watching Netflix on one monitor while programming, writing, or surfing the web on the other. This graphics card works fine for that use.
Works fine with Win10
I bought this to install in an old Dell Dimension E521 that was about to have its OS upgraded from Win7 to Win10. I knew from experience that Win10 does not like the Nvidia 6150SE video circuitry built into the Dell, so I installed this prior to the upgrade using the drivers on the supplied disk. After the upgrade, Win10 recognized the card and found and installed the GeForce 8400 GS drivers automatically, so this absolutely works well with Win10.
Perfect for Server 2012 R2
Well, the requirements say you need a minimum of a 350W power supply, but I threw this into an older Dell Vostro desktop unit, running MS Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard, with a 300W power supply, and it is running fine. Also, I originally installed the entire suite of NVIDIA programs, including 3D Audio, 3D Vision, Physx, etc. and there were no issues. The installation disc comes with the unit, along with the half-height rails, which I didn’t need in this tower. The driver will install real time, with no reboot required, and will instantaneously kick your video resolution to where it should be for your monitor, which was great. Recommend for Windows Server 2012 R2, as this card is fan-less (passive), and the driver is nice and light weight. Recommend driver-only installation for Server, even though, again, I had zero issues with the full load installed. If you have a 350W+ power supply, and are using your server as a workstation, I don’t see why you couldn’t game with this one. Great card for the money.
Great video card to restore monitor control to old PCs running under WIndows 10
Installed in a 6 yo PC with a Gigabyte MoBo with an older NVIDIA chipset that is no longer supported by NVIDIA. Windows 10 no longer recognizes the old NVIDIA drivers and began setting the monitor to an unusual and distorted screen resolution that could not be adjusted. This EVGA video board and the EVGA drivers installed easily and were immediately recognized by the MoBo and Windows, and provide all the monitor/video setting I needed. Great budget video card.
Bought two of these 4 years ago and I can’t believe they are still being sold, though they work quite well.
Solid for old school games and video playback.
The Nvidia Geforce 8400 512MB graphics card is about on par with the GT 610 1GB model. Works good as an ‘entry level’ GPU for video playback and old school (Doom, Quake III, Unreal Tournament, Half-Life, Counter-Strike) games.
