I have been looking for a way to copy videos that I was watching or streaming from my Roku. Like a lot of people, I would love the option of watching a movie or show and saving it for another time to view on a different TV.
Perfect performance and quality, one of the best purchases Ive made in years! A++ (30+ years experience in digital video)
I dont even know where to start, this has been one of the single best purchases Ive made in years! Ive been involved in digital video and digital photography since the 1980’s! I used a $500 video capture card to make 320X240 AVI videos, yeah…. been that long ago! Fast forward past all the advances… and you end up at Cloner Alliance! I read all the reviews for several major name brand devices, I was 99% ready to buy from Aver Media.. Ive used there equipment in the past and was pretty satisfied… when I accidentally tripped across the Cloner Alliance brand.
This box does exactly what i needed it to do. i purchased it that i could record my movies to add to my home media center. I set the box to record blu ray at max settings 16mb and i have compared the two and it is 99% perfect. the only thing it does is it is slightly darker than the original format. but as far as functionality goes i have a samsung 75 inch 4k tv hooked up to an xbox one i pretty much hooked it all up and everything worked perfectly. i dont need to unplug it when i play halo or call of duty because i do not notice any lag whatsoever. the memory stick it comes with is 16gb which is a lot but when it comes to a full feature film it does fall short. upgrade that portion of the package its cheap and has multiple uses. i did however have to do quite a bit of digging to find out just how long i could record video on that memory stick which was kind of a pain. it would be nice if the box automatically detected how much space you had and said how long you could record that way you could plan accordingly, when your record and encode is 1 to 1 you cant really mess up because its in real time. the software it comes with works flawlessly. the dvd and bluray burner works perfect, and overall i am extremely satisfied with this product. oh and its small, like fit in the palm of your hand small.
Husband gave it a 50 star smile! Performs beautifully and brightens our world!
My husband wanted this to enhance his ability to record movies for our own use from the TV and store them on his computer. He
Awesome device, horrible software .
This is a really nice device , with a few buts. . .
Performs competently and fast, but slightly limited
What its original cost was to what I ended up paying, this was worth the money. I’ve been using this for over a week, and have capture well over 100 gigs of footage. The setup can be a bit fiddly and involved, but the instructions cover the process. As well, I received e-mail notifications on how to set it up, and once I registered the device I was capturing same day.
Excellent Product – I have the Evolve and the standalone box(without remote) They both work flawlessly.
This is my second cloner box. Two years ago I purchased the standalone unit and have never been happier. I recently experienced problem capturing video with my old box and to my pleasant surprise found a firmware upgrade which fixed my problem. This shows that the product is still supported by the vendor even after 2 years. In looking around at Amazon I discovered that they have two more products. I decided to purchased this Evolve and it works perfect too. No complaints whatsoever. If you are looking for something to capture video in a standalone environment buy this product and you will be happy.
This is an amazing little box and worth every penny
This is an amazing little box and worth every penny! I’ll say up front that I did NOT buy the HDML-Cloner Box Evolve to capture games or my own voice while I play (though I’ve tested it and it easily will) and am not using it as a DVR substitute (though I’d imagine if recording something “live” that again wouldn’t be a problem; I can’t speak to the timer feature yet seeing as I haven’t used it). What I HAVE been using this device for from the moment it arrived is importing family videos. The AV input on the box worked wonderfully for my old VHS tapes (the 4:3 aspect button does just that; it keeps proportions and does more than just “letterbox” a stretched video as some reviews suggest), and seeing as my HDV camcorder has an HDMI output that’s been smooth sailing. Video is as clear and crisp as the original quality, I’ve had ZERO problems with audio/video latency even in captures of more that 2.5 hours, videos are recorded in H.264 and can thus easily be viewed on a variety of devices, and as long as you take two seconds and actually follow their directions (update the firmware, be patient and wait for all of 15 seconds after you stop recording for the device to finalize the video before you unplug) you’re golden. I haven’t had any reason to contact tech support to date. I’m nothing but pleased with this device and would recommend it (and dare I say their other products) in a heartbeat to anyone looking to easily capture video; make sure you select the device that has all the potential inputs you’ll want and you should be set. Fabulous product!
Works great, but had to replace TV.
Almost gave four stars as I didn’t find it clear that the reason it didn’t initially work is that my TV is too old. Had to replace my TV which is HD and has three HDMI ports with a new one. I have no idea if it’s because the TV is 10 years old or if 4K video is required or something else. Other than that though, this works great. Bought a 4K TV from Amazon for $299 (TCL 49S405 49-Inch 4K Ultra HD Roku Smart LED TV (2017 Model)). I don’t use the built in Roku as I’m trying to record, so no real advantage to the new TV for me, but worth it to be able to record. It’s very good about starting/stopping recording via remote and clearly displays on the screen when recording starts/stops. A 90 minute movie is about 7 gigs in size, but using the handbrake (free editor found online), able to reduce this to 2 gigs and still have very nice video quality. Anything less than 2 gigs and I can start to see a loss in video quality.
